Its true. Niamh and Andy have become radio hosts and have been quietly creating programs in their living room for the last few months.
The show is called “Hawp’s Kitchen Ceilidh” and is a mix of Celtic, Folk and Roots. Check it out at 2pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at www.wolfvilleradio.ca during the summer. In the fall, we can also be heard on the Acadia University’s Radio Station at http://axeradio.acadiau.ca/listen-live/ on Saturdays at noon.
We are also “with-it” and “in” because we have a facebook page: www.facebook.com/hawpskitchenceilidh.

It has a thumb-up sign in front of it: the best rating
Hawp Storm + Calm (own label PLSNT 001) Nova Scotia and Ontario based outfit playing predominantly Irish/ Scots and local repertoire. The flute and fiddle front line provide nimble exchanges. Andy and Niamh Webster’s strident vocals grab attention with their rugged earthiness. There is an edgy excitement pulsing through this music that wriggles at the earlobes. A raw, pulsating discovery - check them out. www.hawp.ca

As some of you may know, Niamh and Andy packed up the kids and the kitchen sink and drove off out East to find a place to live in beautiful Nova Scotia. Well, they found the place of their dreams in the NS’s Annapolis Valley and are firmly planted there. Little did they know that they would come across two fabulous musicians living in the same village that played exactly the instruments Hawp needed out East. Fiddler Jennifer Melvin and flute and whistle player Tess Wingate valiantly stepped up to the plate and learned the entire repertoire in time to play the Lunenburg Sessions last month to a great crowd. Anne, Jason and Ciaran are still on board for Ontario shows and Jason and Andy are still in touch to create new Hawp schtuff!

This post is a little late going up…. Shortly after our Ontario album release tour, fabulous Waterloo, ON based artist, Eva MacCauley asked me if I would put a note up on the site to clarify who did the artwork for Storm and Calm. The images on the album cover were designed by Collingwood, Ontario’s Mike Findlay of Guelph’s legendary rock band, The Kramdens. The design was based on an original painting by Eva called “Isolation 3″ - a stunning painting from a series she created last year in Ireland. Below is a photo of Isolation 3. In September, Jay Weiler, Hawp’s founding fiddler found he had too much to do as he has just become a qualified chiropractor. We wish Jay all the best with his new career….as long as he still gives us a tune now an again. Taking over from Jay is one of the most talented musicians in the country: fiddle extraordinaire, singer of songs, composer, improviser and multi instrumentalist, Anne Lederman.

Check out Anne at www.annelederman.com.

It’s true. Wee Jenn, one of Hawp’s dancers, has moved out to Halifax, Nova Scotia to study Fine Art at Dalhousie University. This means that Niamh and Ciaran will just have to dance a lot more to make up for her. All the best, Jenn!
